How acupuncture can help you...
I've found that most people I talk to about acupuncture have a curiosity about how it works in helping restore health but mainly, I get many questions from those who are new to acupuncture regarding whether or not it hurts, or if it's anything they should try if they are needle phobic. It is natural to have these apprehensions around this medicine; it is a very intimate form of bodywork as in I am licensed to place sharp metal objects in your body in order to move or attract your body's Qi (chee). Qi is the energy in your body that flows up and down in channels, in and out of organs, it moves the blood and muscles, it creates thoughts in your mind, and enables you to function as a living human being. Bottom line, acupuncture does not have to hurt and the needles that I use are no fatter than a thread of hair. It's a whole different experience than getting your blood drawn or getting a flu shot. And what does it treat? Well, everything, really. It's great for pain management, for internal diseases, stress relief, fertility, the list of treatable ailments is endless. I also find people seek me out after they've tried everything else for their health issues. How many treatments does it take to see a difference? It's different for different people. It's like how tangled is your web of health. The more tangled it is, the longer and more sessions it takes to help correct it. I help people take charge of their health and get more in tune with their bodies. I'm no magician. All I'm trying to do is get your body and health back in balance or homeostasis, which is your own self's preferred state. And every acupuncturist offers something different when it comes to treatment. Below are a few of the methods I use in my practice....

Hara DiagnosisTaken after my teacher Kiiko Matsumoto and her predecessors, this Japanese style of acupuncture emphasizes abdominal palpation and distal reflex points to treat blockages of Qi in the body. This subtle yet powerful method is best used for internal diseases: women's health, digestive issues, endocrine issues, detoxification, blood pressure regulation, immune disorders, and much more...

Trigger Point Therapy This method works well for musculoskeletal disorders that cause pain in the body. Active trigger points (TPs) and their referral patterns are released with this style of acupuncture. After these TPs are released, muscles relax, bones re-set, and old pain patterns dissolve. This is a much more active method and is likened more to a deep tissue massage...

Five Element TheoryTreatments using the Five Element Theory are particularly useful in psycho-emotional disorders. The mind/spirit and the body are not separate and this more modern style developed by the late J.R. Worsley takes this ancient daoist theory and applies it to the spirit in ourselves. Pulse diagnosis as well as a detailed patient intake is used in this method. This style works well with stress relief, psycho-emotional disorders like PTSD and depression/anxiety...
